A SANDAL FROM EAST ANGLIA. To Sherlock Holmes she will always be The Nun. But is this brilliant young woman carrying on a secret double life – a life far too sensual for a member of a holy order? She is helping archeological excavations at the ruined Abbey of St. Edmund, where a sealed canister has been unearthed. In it is a document that has the potential to change the course of the British Empire and all of Christendom.
The Bishop of the Abbey seeks the help of Sherlock Holmes. A few days later he is dead and the Nun has vanished along with the secret document.
There are some evil young men who are prepared to rob, and beat, and even commit murder to keep the contents of the ancient charter from ever becoming known. The Nun is determined to use the document to improve the lives of women throughout the world.
Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are called upon to protect the young woman, catch the killers, and trap the evil men who are greedily plotting against her.
The mystery is inspired by the original Sherlock Holmes story, A Scandal in Bohemia as well as the Magna Carta and is tied to some actual historical events of seven hundred years ago – with some imagination added. Fans of Sherlock Holmes will enjoy a new story that maintains all the loved and familiar characters and settings of Victorian England.

Pastiche writing is new to me, but after recently reading author Craig Stephen Copland’s other book, “Studying Scarlet,” I found myself wanting to read another one of his new Sherlock Holmes mysteries. “A Sandal from East Anglia” is set in 1888 Victorian England, and Holmes is hired to retrieve an ancient document discovered in an archaeological excavation…a document that becomes the motive behind theft, deception, and murder. As expected, Holmes impresses everyone with his deductive reasoning, as he cleverly deals with an odd-looking monk, a bishop, and a mysterious and fascinating nun who may just hold the future of women’s equal rights in her hands. The English dialect, as well as the characteristic form of communication between Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson is fast moving and entertaining. I am rapidly becoming a prodigious fan of this genre. Mr. Copland once again delivers an intriguing story line, interspersed with historical facts of the British Empire and Christendom.

A Sandal from East Anglia A New Sherlock Holmes Mystery New Sherlock Holmes Mysteries Book 9 edition by Craig Stephen Copland Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
This is not a mystery of any worth. This is merely an account of a fictitious event in which very little sleuthing is performed.
Interesting plot, with a denouement familiar to fans of Conan Doyle and Rex Stout. The writing is acceptable but not quite as good as either Conan Doyle or Stout. But that is a hard standard to achieve, the plot is worthy and some of the atmospheric details are unique (Combine the Magna Carta with Salvation Army?). And no less an authority as August Derleth once declared that writing a pastiche was harder than an original story because the author has less freedom. So relax and enjoy a minor gem.
I enjoy many of the Holmes pastiches, but the central text of this
story is so full of expressions, i.e.," pimplehead" to name someone,
that take away from any resemblance to what Doyle had written.
I don't see the point in having Holmes speak in a vulgar
contemporary idiom. Read something else.
reasonably good......awfully short!
Another great Holmes pastiche. Fun to spend time where “it’s always 1895” again.
A Sandal from East Anglia A New Sherlock Holmes Mystery (New Sherlock Holmes Mysteries) (Volume 9). Simple, Easy and quick read. What an amazing BOOK!
Sherlock Holmes impresses me with his deductive reasoning, write-up as he amazingly relate with an odd-looking priest and a fascinating nun who may just hold the future of women’s equal rights in her hands.
I really enjoyed the nun character in this book. It really makes you question whether she is a good hearted person or is she really a criminal? Find out when you buy your own copy of this Book. Sincerely, I highly recommend this book!
I am reading and reviewing my way through this series,
and am enjoying stories more with each passing one.
A Sandal from East Anglia has a unique and interesting
storyline which moves along quickly.
The usual cast of characters are naturally present, as to
be expected.
And, Sherlock Holmes, gets a surprise.
Ahhhh, to find out what that would be, you must read
the story.
